Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya will have to pay a fine of Rs 24 lakh after he was found guilty of not completing his overs in the stipulated time during the IPL 2024 match with Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday night.

According to a statement from the IPL, this is the second time MI has maintained a slow over-rate this season and so is the amount of the punishment.

“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh,” the statement said.

Other MI players, including impact subs, have also been fined.

“The rest of the playing XI members, including the impact player, were each individually fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower,” it added.

The Mumbai franchise was handed a heavier punishment this time as they were guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate for the second time this season. MI captain Hardik was fined for the second time and this time the amount was double. Earlier, during MI’s match against PBKS, Hardik was fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate. After the LSG match, Hardik was penalised for violating the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.

Not just the captain but the entire team was penalised for not being able to complete the overs within the stipulated time. The BCCI in a statement mentioned the fines imposed on the MI players who took part in the match.

The BCCI said, “As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh. The rest of the playing XI members, including the impact player, were individually fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.”
