The Tasman pickup is a significant new vehicle for the brand, and it is set to hit the market with a distinctive exterior design unlike any other truck.

These renderings of the new Kia Tasman are based on both official photos released by Kia last month, which showed a prototype bathed in brightly colored camouflage, as well as prototypes captured on multiple occasions by spy shooters.

Xiaomi SU7: After just 24 miles, a brand-new car Xiaomi SU7 dies and cannot be repaired by a dealer.

The front of the pickup is particularly interesting and includes a pair of small headlights on the outer edges of the fascia, which are in line with the black front wheel arches.

Kia Tasman powertrain

The Tasman is believed to be based on the same body-on-frame architecture as the second-generation Mohave SUV, which dates back to the 2008 Borrego. While engine options will vary between markets, we know there is at least one diesel in the cards which will likely be the group’s 2.2-litre four-cylinder CRDI found in other Kia and Hyundai models.

This diesel powerplant, which is already employed in the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento in global markets, delivers 199 horsepower (149 kW/202 PS) and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm) of peak torque. Kia is expected to pair it with an automatic transmission and selectable all-wheel drive in the Tasman.

The Koreans may also consider offering a larger 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 option for the pickup truck, although this is unconfirmed. Regardless, Kia’s goals for the Tasman include achieving a towing capacity of 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) and a payload of 1,000 kg (2,204 lb) with the available powertrains.

Kia Tasman Availability

The Tasman is positioned directly against established rivals such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton and VW Amarok, and will be available on sale in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Korea, Africa and the Pacific. Middle East.

Unfortunately, the Kia Tasman is not available in the U.S. There is little or no possibility of being sold in. The primary culprit is the 25% “chicken tax” imposed on foreign-made pickup trucks. This tax will automatically make the Tasman uncompetitive in the states compared to its domestic and established rivals like the Ford Ranger.

While a Kia prototype has been spotted undergoing testing in the US, this does not indicate a North American release in the future. Kia confirmed this in its official response when reached:

A Kia spokesperson told Carscoops, “At this time, Kia America has no official announcements related to the Tasman, despite reports of a prototype being tested in the US.” “It is important to note that Kia’s California Proving Ground is located in the Mojave Desert, which serves as an important center for R&D and evaluation of Kia vehicles, including Kia Sportage, for global markets. Tasman testing in this facility does not mean planning its sale in the US market.
